Coastal Archipelago
Seabirds of the South China Sea
Across the scattered islands and coral reefs of the South China Sea, a world of seabirds exists largely unseen by human eyes. This exhibition brings together remarkable documentation of breeding colonies, foraging behaviors, and the intimate lives of birds that spend most of their existence over open ocean.
The South China Sea encompasses some of the world's most biodiverse marine ecosystems. Above this rich ocean, an equally diverse community of seabirds has evolved to exploit every ecological niche—from shallow reef feeders to oceanic wanderers that circle entire ocean basins.
